WHAT IS RELATIONAL THERAPY?

We all have times in our lives when we know something is wrong, even if we don’t know what it is. You might feel off-balance, low energy, not yourself. Often you feel like you want to talk about what’s happening with someone, even if you aren't yet clear about it. You want to be able to talk with someone who won’t judge you, who won’t second guess your experiences, or try to explain them away, or try to rewrite your story for you.

You want to be able to talk with someone who will listen without an agenda. Someone who can provide understanding and compassion, patience and authenticity. Someone who can be curious with you about what’s happening, and dedicated to finding a way to help you move through it.

Relational therapy is that conversation. If you have that need to talk, I am here to listen.

OUR WORK TOGETHER

I am a firm believer in the power of conversation, of both listening and of being heard. I am committed to working with you to create space with you where you can feel seen, and heard, and understood. A space free of judgment. The work we do will be focused on you and your story. I will listen and offer my observations, but I’m not here to tell you what to think, or how to feel. I’m here to listen to what you think and how you feel, to be with you in those moments, no matter how hard or complicated they might be.

I will enter into the space we share with a focus on compassionate curiosity, and work with you to both honour and respect your feelings and experience, and also helping you ask yourself where those feelings might be coming from? Sometimes an outside perspective can help with understanding what’s happening. Once we can find a place of understanding, we can start to ask more questions, and work towards better answers.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist, and a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). I am a member of the Canadian Association for Psychodynamic Therapists (CAPT) and abide by the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of both CAPT and CRPO. I studied relational psychotherapy at the Toronto Institute for Relational Psychotherapy.

ONLINE SESSION RATES

I am accepting new clients for remote video sessions only. Be in touch to schedule a consultation session.

A 50-minute online video session is $150, tax included. Payment can be made via e-transfer to jp@jprobichaud.com in advance of the session. As finding the right therapist to work with is important, I offer a 30 minute consultation session at a price of $50, tax included, to perspective new clients, to see if we would be a good fit.

In addition, as part of my goal to make therapy services more accessible, especially during this period of upheaval and uncertainty, I reserve a limited number of spots at a sliding scale/reduced rate. Please be in touch if cost is a barrier to accessing therapy and I may be able to offer a reduced fee.

Recognizing that things don't always go as planned, at some point you may have to cancel a session with me. I require 24 hours notice to cancel an online appointment without charge. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will require full payment. The best way to let me know of the need to cancel an appointment is by email to jp@jprobichaud.com with the subject line SESSION CANCELLATION.
